There has never been more information available for health consumers than right now. But how do you sort out what’s the most important, what will move the needle?
Our Good, Better, Best series will continue to try to answer some of those questions and point you in directions based on cost, level of interest and impact on your overall health. This week we’re going to focus on bloodwork.
Good –> Yearly you should get a physical through your GP. Generally covered by your insurance and includes a blood panel with lipid profile. You’ll get the basics here: cholesterol, A1C, some vitamins and minerals. Generally about 15-20 blood markers. These visits are a great way to identify big warning signs (like high blood pressure combined with high cholesterol) but they don’t go very deep into your health.
Better –> Our partnership with Vitality provides a much more comprehensive look at bloodwork through a performance lens. You’ll receive roughly 100 different blood markers and see a much clearer picture of how they interact with each other. Plus Vitality offers easy ways to modify the metrics that will have the biggest impact through recommendations on lifestyle, nutrition and supplements tailored to your biggest constraints. You can book your test and follow up consultation with me at the same time.
Best –> We have great relationships with both Biolounge in NW Portland and Lake Oswego Health Center in Lake Oswego. Their teams can tailor your bloodwork to your particular needs, stage of life and medical history, then curate personalized medical plans to address any areas of concern. A bigger investment, but incredibly thorough and customized.
Regardless of your starting point, having the information is important and can help identify crucial areas to address for a longer, healthier life. And if you’re doing the basics and not getting the results you hope for, digging deeper can provide key insights into where you might make big changes!
