Body composition scans
Looking for an InBody scan near you? Hyatt Strength + Wellness offers medical-grade InBody 570 body composition testing at our private Slabtown studio in NW Portland (2001 NW 19th Ave). Tests take under 60 seconds and cost $40 for a scan only or $163 with a 50-minute professional consultation for non-members. Scans are free and unlimited for gym members.
A bathroom scale tells you what you weigh. It cannot tell you whether the four pounds you dropped last month came off as fat or muscle. An InBody 570 scan can, and the test itself takes less than a minute!

Hyatt Strength + Wellness is a private strength and wellness studio in NW Portland’s Slabtown, and we run InBody 570 body composition scans for members and non-members alike. You walk out with a printed breakdown of your muscle, your fat, and your body water.
If you book the consultation option, a trainer sits down with you afterward to explain what each number means for the way you train and eat.
* Scans are free and unlimited for gym members.
What the InBody measures
The InBody 570 uses direct segmental multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis. You stand on the platform in bare feet and hold the hand electrodes. The machine sends low-level currents at three frequencies, 5, 50, and 500 kHz, through five separate segments of your body. That produces 15 impedance readings in under a minute. There is no radiation, no dunk tank, and nobody pinching your skin.
Muscle and fat, separately
The headline output is the split between skeletal muscle mass and body fat mass, reported in pounds. Consider this example to see why this matters: Two clients can both hold steady at 170 pounds for three months, while one gains six pounds of muscle and loses six pounds of fat. On a scale, those two look identical, but an InBody Scan tells a more detailed story.
Segmental analysis, limb by limb
The InBody 570 breaks lean mass and fat down across your left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg, and trunk. That is where old injuries, favored sides, and desk posture show up in the data. For example, your right leg may be carrying noticeably less lean mass than the left, which tells you about how to adjust your strength programming.
Body water, and the ECW/TBW ratio
The InBody machine separates total body water into intracellular water, the water inside your cells, and extracellular water, the water outside them. The ratio between extracellular and total body water is a standard marker we recommend. It shifts with hydration, sodium, sleep, stress, hard training blocks, and illness.
Visceral fat level
Visceral fat is the fat packed around your abdominal organs, and it is very different from the fat under your skin. It is the fat most closely tied to metabolic health, and it is the fat most responsive to consistent training and better sleep. The 570 reports it as a level rather than a percentage, which makes it easy to track across tests.
Basal metabolic rate
Your BMR is the energy your body burns at complete rest, calculated from your lean mass. It is the honest starting point for any nutrition conversation, and it is the reason a nutrition plan built around body weight alone tends to miss.

Frequently asked questions
The scan itself runs about 50 seconds. Book the scan-only appointment, and you are in and out in a few minutes. The scan-and-consultation appointment is 50 minutes, most of which is the conversation about your results.
No. Anyone can book. For non-members, scans are $40 on their own or $163 with a consultation, and they are free and unlimited for Hyatt Strength + Wellness members.
Yes. It passes a low-level electrical current through your body, well below anything you can feel, and there is no radiation involved. If you have a pacemaker or another implanted electronic device, check with your physician first.
We don’t recommend it. Bioelectrical impedance readings are unreliable during pregnancy because of the fluid changes involved, so the numbers would not tell you anything useful.
Accurate enough to track change reliably, which is what it’s for. DEXA is generally treated as the more precise single measurement. Where the InBody wins is repeatability, because a test you can take every eight weeks under identical conditions tells you more about your progress than one very precise reading taken once.
Pair them with a plan. Numbers on their own do not change anything. Our trainers use scan results to set the training and nutrition targets for the next block, then re-test to see whether it worked. Learn about one-on-one personal training or book a free consultation.
Most Portland clients repeat an InBody scan every 8–12 weeks to track changes and evaluate how training and lifestyle adjustments are working.
You can get an InBody 570 body composition scan at Hyatt Strength + Wellness in Portland. The scan is paired with a one-on-one consultation to help you understand your results and how your lifestyle and training affect them.
