About me
I’ve been in the fitness industry since 2016 as a personal trainer and spent a short time teaching cardio kickboxing. I decided to become a personal trainer after I had a heart attack when I was 16 years old due to a birth defect in my heart. I only survived thanks to a number of lucky factors and because I exercised regularly. Near the end of high school, I started to become more aware of how poor fitness could affect not just outward mobility but also inward health markers. As a result, I wanted to put myself in a position where I could actively help people before they had to go to the hospital.
I love working as a personal trainer. As cheesy and common as the answer may be, I really enjoy seeing people get healthy and strong. I love it when a client tells me how happy they are with their wedding photos since they lost weight or how their knee doesn’t hurt anymore. Sharing in those victories, no matter how big or small, is incredibly satisfying to me.
One of the reasons I enjoy personal training is that I get to work with lots of different people. It’s my job to discover what a person’s goals are and pour myself into what it means for that person to achieve their goals. I help my clients by asking them questions about what they want from me and where they want to be. I really try my best to personalize things for my clients. There are obviously several centerpiece exercises that I make a lot of my clients do, but low-bar back squats aren’t always the best training tool regardless of how much I might love them!
Clients work with me because of my education, honesty, integrity and my ability to push people. I’m also told my jokes are funny!
Specialties
Endurance and strength training, fitness for golf and tennis, injury prevention, rehabilitation, weight loss, muscle gain, sports-specific training and confidence building.
Philosophy
Discipline is a shield against excuses and lack of motivation. Find what you like to do that prepares you to face the world, and do that.
Outside the gym
I currently live in Hazel Dell, Wash. I enjoy lifting weights, playing board games, watching TV and movies, listening to music, practicing martial arts, remodeling my house, cooking (while hoping someone else will do the dishes), eating and spending time with friends and my dogs. Even though I work in the fitness industry and have trained several competitive athletes, I don’t actually watch any sports aside from ones based in martial arts. I still don’t know how to catch a football. I used to play some video games competitively, which means I’m not a computer nerd, I’m a computer jock!
