Name: Stacy Blanton

Age: 47

Length of time with Hyatt Training and date when you started: I began training at Hyatt Training in May 2017, so just shy of 3 years ago.

What were your goals when you started? I started at Hyatt Training with the goal to get more toned and more flexible.

What are your goals today? Today, my goal is to continue to increase my strength and (hopefully) my metabolism.

What has been your biggest challenge? Three months after beginning my training at Hyatt Training, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I immediately began a 4 month chemotherapy treatment, followed by a double mastectomy and reconstruction surgery. My reconstruction was completed in May of 2018. I continued my sessions, and even increased them, during this time. Now, due to the post treatment medication, my metabolism seems to be nonexistent. Erin has been working with me on nutrition and strength training to counteract the side effects of the medication.

What have been your biggest areas of improvement? I have greatly increased my strength, especially over the past year.

What is your favorite thing about Hyatt Training? Hyatt Training is such an amazing family on so many levels. I enjoy the interaction I have with Erin, as well as the other trainers, and other clients. My husband and I recently started joint sessions with Erin. He feels the same about Hyatt Training, and drives across the river, past several other studios and gyms, to workout there.

What is your favorite thing about your personal trainer? She is extremely supportive and encouraging. She also holds me accountable. We have periodic check ins where we review my goals, check on progress, and make new goals. Erin always pushes me to do a little more.

What is your proudest achievement or biggest accomplishment since you began working with Hyatt Training? Conquering breast cancer and staying active throughout the entire process. If I was not a member at Hyatt Training, I don’t think I would have had the same journey. My doctors told me repeatedly that my training sessions had a positive impact on my cancer treatment. Had it not been for the support and encouragement of my trainers, and Jeremy and Lee, I would not have kept the level exercise throughout my treatment. I cannot thank the Hyatt Training family enough for all they have contributed to my life.

What have you learned: I am strong. I have always known I am strong minded. But, I have never felt physically strong, especially with upper body strength. I never thought I would be pushing to lift heavier weights. My goal in the beginning was to ‘get tone’ and lose a little of the extra fluff. But, Erin has flipped a switch in me and makes me want to push the weight and get even stronger. Also- breathing… I never realized how important it is to use the right breathing technique. I can feel my muscles working and building as I exhale.

What advice would you give to other people starting on their fitness journey? Working out on your own, especially in a new gym, can be very intimidating. It held me back for quite some time. At Hyatt Training, you don’t have to be intimidated. Everyone wants to be a helping hand in your journey- both trainers and clients. Take a deep breath and just do it – but don’t forget to exhale. =)

If you remember, do you mind sharing why you chose to start training at Hyatt Training? My boss has been a long-time fan of Hyatt Training and encouraged me to try it out as well.
