About me
I’ve been working at ActiveEdge Wellness Center since October 2014 as personal trainer, fitness class instructor, physical therapist aide and gym desk coordinator. Before that I worked for the Portland Youth Soccer Association as a field marshall and referee. I decided to become a personal trainer because I believe that exercise is medicine, and, if prescribed correctly, it can change peoples’ lives. I love the problem solving aspect of personal training and the ability to be creative on a daily basis which then keeps workouts fun and diverse.
My ideal client is a reliable individual who is committed to hardworking and adaptable to make the necessary changes to achieve their goals. I hold my clients’ interests in high regard and adjust to the life challenges that come their way. I am committed to helping them toward better health and fitness and work hard to guide them to success. I feel a huge sense of accomplishment when a client reaches a quality of life and fitness that they didn’t know was possible!
Specialties
With the majority of Americans struggling to find time to exercise, I have specialized in HIIT (high intensity interval training) where clients get the most “bang for their buck.” This type of metabolic training enables clients to get an effective workout in a short period of time, preserving time to work on mobility exercises pre- and post-workout. I use this platform to fit in your individualized goals whether that be to increase strength, endurance, mobility, stability or overall resting energy levels.
Philosophy
I believe in building strong foundational movement patterns that enable people to move in a functional and efficient manner. Everyone has muscular and or structural imbalances to some degree. My first priority is to find the limiting movements and imbalances and then work towards shortening that discrepancy. Once those movements are corrected and consistent, we can then focus on enhancing performance based on the specific sport or activity. Our physical health and fitness are dynamic entities that require consistent work and commitment to hit our moving targets. With commitment fueled by hard work and motivation from both trainer and client, life-changing victories can be accomplished.
Outside the gym
I grew up in Portland, Oregon, and currently live in southwest Portland near Multnomah Village. I have a life-long love affair with soccer. I can’t get enough of the outdoors so you’ll find me hiking, trail running, rock climbing, snowboarding, surfing, stand up paddle boarding or lounging with my golden retriever Kona in the park.
