It’s a popular myth that women will get “bulky” if they do strength training. Check out personal trainer Jeremy Hyatt’s take on the importance of strength training for women.
“The evidence is overwhelming for women of all ages to participate in strength training on a regular basis. The most common excuse is that women don’t want to get bulky or look “like a man” and that weight rooms are intimidating (this is true really to anyone without formal knowledge or confidence with weight lifting).
As a personal trainer it’s my job to dispel these myths, educate and build confidence, and above all else provide a supportive environment for everyone to get stronger. In nearly 20 years, I have never seen a woman get “bulky”. The effort it would take from caloric addition and hormone therapy (more testosterone anyone?) would make it very difficult. The benefits that women experience from increased hip and core strength, bone density and confidence are an essential part of any smart fitness program.
In addition, as personal trainers we continually strive to build an environment that is supportive and encouraging for everyone to come in, take chances, learn new things and get stronger! I am continually so proud of how Hyatt Training clients embrace this community each and every day.”
