Setting a goal inspires us to make things happen. But to be effective, there’s more to it than just saying it out loud. Check out personal trainer Sarah Griffin’s tip to be smarter with your goal setting.
“Goals are very important to keep us motivated, whether they are short term or long term. However, usually when we think of goals, we think of a desire. We have a desire to be stronger, faster, bigger, leaner, etc. A goal or goal set needs to be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Timely). It also requires evaluation and revision.
I write my weekly goal sets at the beginning of each keep to help keep me focused. I like to put it where I can see it as a friendly, encouraging reminder.”
Sarah’s personal training philosophy
I want to help people accomplish what’s important to them. I encourage my clients to be safe, have fun and be consistent. Safety includes training smart, focusing on form versus number of reps and weight, and listening to your body. Training should be fun! Of course, you should also be challenged and pushed outside of your comfort zone, but it’s important to enjoy your workout so you’re more likely to stick with it. Consistency is key. Do a little (or a lot) of something most days, and that is when you will see lasting results.
