Thanksgiving kicks off the season of excess. Check out our November tips to give yourself a healthy start to the holiday season. Personal trainer Erin Seekins shares her Thanksgiving day advice.

“My number one piece of advice for Thanksgiving weekend is to not stress about it too much! Don’t be that person who’s telling everyone how many burpees it takes to burn off a slice of pie… what a buzz kill! Enjoy yourself.

That being said, you don’t want to overindulge and undo all of your progress. Remember portion control. Eat slowly and stop when you’re full. There’s always a healthy alternative: light meat instead of dark meat turkey, homemade everything instead of store-bought anything, pumpkin pie instead of a full crust or pecan pie, real whipped cream instead of cool-whip.

Thanksgiving doesn’t have to be stressful or complicated when you’re trying to get or stay in shape. Use your judgement, and be fully there with your family.”

Erin’s personal training philosophy

Portland personal trainer Erin SeekinsMy training philosophy is simplicity. One of the main reasons people have a hard time maintaining an active lifestyle is because things get too complicated and stressful. I believe that being fit and healthy is not a quick fix, but rather something that should be sustained your entire life. As your personal trainer, I’m here to facilitate and guide you, but you have to put in the work.
