Thanksgiving kicks off the season of excess. Check out our November tips to give yourself a healthy start to the holiday season. Personal trainer Natalie McClure shares her favorite Thanksgiving day tradition.

“I love to sign up for a race on Thanksgiving Day to help get motivated to burn some calories before the feast! Signing up doesn’t only benefit me on race day, but it keeps me true to my workouts all month long as I prepare for the race. Short distances are a fun way to stay accountable without tacking a longer more serious distance.”

Here are a list of several races in the area: Clark County Turkey Trot, Gateway Church Run for the Hungry in Camas, Sherwood’s Give n’ Gobble, Oregon Turkeython at Bridgeport Village, Turkey Trot at the Zoo, Tofurky Trot at Oaks Park.

Natalie’s personal training philosophy

Hyatt Training Portland personal trainer Natalie McClureFitness is a life-long journey. If we give too much to our fitness lives and don’t balance out the reality of our day-to-day lives, we will get caught in unrealistic expectations that we can’t maintain.

It’s all about pairing the best you’ve got in that hour-long workout with the realities of career, family, daily commute, bills, pets, delicious meals, etc., to make fitness a sustainable piece of the puzzle.
