Linda has been a Hyatt Training member since 2016. Previously an avid runner, Linda has learned the importance of resistance training and has combined the two to make a complete and sustainable fitness lifestyle. Working with her personal trainer Hayden Olson has given her the tools she needs to reach and exceed her goals. Now Linda knows that focusing on the journey, not the destination, is what drives a healthy life.

What were your goals when you started? I would train for different running events throughout the year but it was very sporadic. I wanted to focus on balancing out my running with strength training and create an overall healthier lifestyle.
What are your goals today? I’m happy with what we’ve accomplished with my increased strength. I would like to continue with that and focus more attention on my nutrition and getting leaner. I have 2 Hood to Coast runs coming up, both Washington and the original HTC. I would like to incorporate my training to increase my strength and speed for these events.
What has been your biggest challenge? Was there anything you had to overcome? My biggest challenge was me! I battled with being consistent and making my workouts a priority. I had difficulty making time to get to the gym during the day, and I’m not a morning person. Despite this, I meet with Hayden at 6:30am for our workouts. I also have my workout buddy I met through Hyatt Training that I meet a couple early mornings during the week. It’s still a challenge to get up early but with every early morning workout completed, I feel awesome!
What have been your biggest areas of improvement? I had a shoulder injury and very little upper body strength. The mobility in my injured shoulder was limited, it would snap and I would have shooting pain just doing daily activities. Hayden was very diligent in working to increase the mobility and strength in my shoulder. Fast forward almost 2 years and I would tell you my shoulder injury is no longer a limitation and I have more upper body strength then I ever have. I just recently worked on a Habitat for Humanity build site. I was able to dig post holes, and wheel barrel and pour concrete without any trouble. I directly credit my workouts with Hayden for this.
What is your favorite thing about Hyatt Training? I love the sense of community at Hyatt Training. Everyone is approachable and very eager to assist and encourage. The more time you spend at the gym, you get to know people and it’s a very positive and friendly atmosphere.
What is your favorite thing about your personal trainer? Hayden is super positive, encouraging and has a fun, quirky sense of humor that makes our workouts fun. He listens to me and helps me with whatever I may be struggling with. Whether it’s workout or nutrition related, or programming myfitnesspal app for me because I can’t figure it out, Hayden has me covered!
What is your proudest achievement or biggest accomplishment since you began working with Hyatt Training: Having upper body muscle definition! I have never had that before. Women “my age” are worried about their arms, I love mine!
What have you learned? I’ve learned how to balance things out. The workouts, nutrition, sleep. How they all tie together and how important each component is.
What advice would you give to other people starting on their fitness journey? Take it one day at a time! Don’t get down on yourself if you miss a workout or two, just keep moving forward. Appreciate and celebrate your accomplishments!
