We’ve always built some extra structure into the open gym times at the studio. For years we’ve offered three supplemental workouts, accessible to all members – one strength, one HIIT and one cycle to cover different energy systems and give people a game plan when they walk in the door. Recently, we’ve tried to up the level of the HIIT workouts with even more conditioning work and have now made some adjustments to the strength workouts.
For the month of June we’ll be rolling a different “dynamic duo” workout each week. A simple 2-exercise set meant to challenge you physically and mentally. 20 to 30 minutes long and really easy to modify or adapt to equipment at home or traveling, these workouts will help develop overall strength, better conditioning and mental toughness.
For example, week one is Lee’s favorite go-to workout. Here’s the detail: :60 rowing followed by 20 KB swings. She does this set every 2:00 for 30 minutes, meaning whatever time is left after the swing set is her rest between sets, then she starts rowing again at the beginning of the next 2:00 interval. You could easily sub any cardio or strength exercise to fit injuries, equipment, etc. and have a plan nearly anywhere you find yourself wanting a good sweat in a short and simple set-up.
