What do you do when things aren’t perfect?
I had a client show up for his session while I was finishing up my workout. He asked, “Do you just squeeze your workouts in when people cancel?”. I immediately said “no,” then thought about it for a minute. Truth is, I likely fit my workout in where I can 3 out of 5 days a week, and that changes week to week based on my schedule. Like everyone reading this, I prioritize family and work, and then fit my workout in where I can. But I am lucky enough to have a plan for when things aren’t perfect.
What’s yours?
So many people come in motivated to do their best. I’m going to lose this, run that, be here so many times. And that’s great. But it almost never happens like that. Life has a way of getting in the way. So when it does, do you have a quick alternative, or do you just try again tomorrow?
Say your trainer has to cancel because they’re sick. Do you skip your workout, take a substitute, or do a bodyweight session on your own? Because the truth is, you need a plan for the non-perfect days and that consistency is what’s going to really move the needle over time. Progress is a million small decisions stacked up over time – so will your decisions move you towards your goals?
We can help in a million ways. We can add programming to your app for solo workouts when necessary. We can offer amazing substitute trainers with access to your programming to make sure you get your scheduled sessions in. We can help to look at health progress over time to make sure you’re doing the right things in the right doses (wearables, InBody, bloodwork, meds, etc). But we can’t make life perfect. And for that, we need a plan.
Building resilience is critical – especially as we hit cold and flu season. Be consistent, be purposeful, be ready for the unexpected and Be Strong!
