Having been a trainer for over 30 years now, I have seen a ton of changes in this business.
Fitness fads, crazy diets, weird equipment and huge personalities.
Threaded through all of it has been the science of strength, of lean muscle, of cardiovascular health and of the incredible benefits (both physically and mentally) of being strong and healthy.
I’m old enough to have been a part of the women’s weight loss craze. Calorie restriction, cardio on cardio on cardio, all in the attempts of being thin. The first 10 years of my career were dominated by this phrase; “I’m going on a trip in 5 weeks and I want to look great”.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to look great, and none of us would say no to that. But the past 10 years of my career have been dominated by this phrase; “I want to build muscle and be stronger, if I happen to look a little better that would be great too.”
As we move into Women’s Health Month, a HUGE shout out to all of the women who are here getting stronger. And to the amazing team of women owners and coaches that make it all possible. We celebrate these incredible women and love being a part of a community of strong women!
