Last year, Lee and I worked to fully define and create the values that will guide Hyatt Training both today and into the future. Part of putting these inherent values down on paper inspired us to create a meaningful and consistent program for philanthropy, which has always been an important component of our personal lives.

In June 2016 we launched our hallmark giving program with Albertina Kerr. For each new client to Hyatt Training, we donate to support yoga and recreation activities for Albertina Kerr’s Crisis Psychiatric program. Lee was able to volunteer her time to help structure the yoga program and assist with hiring the teachers for the classes.

What really matters to us is the impact. In the last year, Albertina Kerr has had 54 yoga classes for the Crisis Psychiatric program. The program averages 18 kids at a time and all have the option to participate in the yoga class. Program staff report that, on average, each class has around eight kids. We think it’s pretty cool that half of the kids (who may very well have no background in physical activity or yoga) are taking advantage of the classes. The participants have reported positive effects of the class to their therapists.

The kids stay in the program for a relatively short time, two to three weeks on average. We’re happy that they get this chance to do yoga in a therapeutic setting and take the skills they learn with them when they leave the program.

About Alberina Kerr

Since 1907, Albertina Kerr has strengthened Oregon families and communities. Today, they provide programs and services to children and adults with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges, empowering them to live richer lives. Learn more about Albertina Kerr.

In addition to our support of Albertina Kerr, we’ve invested in two organizations in Washington County as well. We love being able to support Community Action and Cedar Mill Elementary. After going to high school in Puerto Rico, I was particularly moved to support the relief efforts that my fellow classmates organized. Lee and I are humbled to be able to support the important work these organizations do each day.
