Personal trainer tip: Take a break
The holidays are here, and it can be a perfect time to step away from your routine. Check out personal trainer Hayden Olson’s tip to take a step back.
“Balancing physical, mental, and social wellness can be challenging if your daily routine does not address all three.
As a personal trainer, I promote physical wellness everyday; however, this can overshadow the other two components. In order to regain holistic awareness of your health, sometimes you need to take a step back from your routine.
I had the chance to explore the east coast with friends for one week and it reminded me how important it is to take breaks once in a while. It gave me a chance to clear my head and self-reflect. Instead of spending my day in my routine, this vacation was a perfect opportunity to assess my routine from a distance (literally and figuratively).
With the holiday season approaching, I encourage you to plan a vacation or take a few days off without brining work along. Even if it is during a long weekend, we all need some time to appreciate ourselves and those close to us without external stressors. Giving yourself the time you deserve will help you address your mental, physical, and social health.” —Hayden Olson
Hayden’s personal training philosophy
My goal is to optimize performance in all of my clients so they can live a healthy, pain-free life. I encourage my clients to strive for progress, not perfection. When training, you don’t have to have an Excel spreadsheet tracking every statistic, but you do need to enter the gym with a goal in mind. I focus on movement patterns over single parts of the body. In order to develop synergy within the body, I work on movements that directly translate into everyday life.
