Personal trainer tip: run!
Vigorous aerobic activity not only makes us feel better and provides a host of health benefits, but it’s one of the only ways to keep your brain creating new neurons. Learn more in this tip from personal trainer Jeremy Hyatt.
“If you’re a runner, you probably don’t need a collection of scientists to remind you that the running is great for your body and mind. We talk about the “runner’s high”, the ability to clear our head, etc. What’s interesting is that science, neurology in particular, is taking a closer look at these phenomenon and finding that they are not urban myth or perceived benefits.
This quote says it all…”Studies in animal models have shown that new neurons are produced in the brain throughout the lifespan, and, so far, only one activity is known to trigger the birth of those new neurons: vigorous aerobic exercise, said Karen Postal, president of the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology. “That’s it,” she said. “That’s the only trigger that we know about.”
