Personal trainer education at Hyatt Training
As personal trainers, our number one job is to share our expertise and passion. We hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards of continuing education. We strive to stay on top of the the latest trends and research to always be at our best. We’re dedicated to educating our clients, ourselves and the community at large.
One of the things that sets Hyatt Training apart is our commitment to education and growth, not just for our clients but for ourselves as personal trainers. The words above are straight from our core values. Our goal is for each of the professionals who work at Hyatt Training to be the best trainer and business owner they can be. As studio owners we work to be a catalyst for as many educational opportunities as possible for our team. Here are a few things we do to foster growth and support…
Each month we hold a free-of-charge hour and a half long seminar that is open to all personal trainers and interns at the studio. Topics alternate between business management and technical personal training insight. Lee and I present on elements of running a successful business (marketing, client retention, record keeping, retirement planning) and team trainers present topics they are experts in (movement screens, olympic lifting, kettle bells, etc.). It’s a great way for us to share information among each other as a team. We’re really proud of the expertise among the personal trainers at the studio, and this provides a formal way for all of us to benefit and learn from each other.
Last month personal trainer Hayden Olson presented about the Functional Movement Screen. He earned the FMS certification last summer and walked the team through the seven assessment tools. Preparing and presenting on a specific topic is a growth opportunity in and of itself. Hayden was a natural!
It’s pretty rare to see most of us in one place at one time, so if you see us gathered on a Friday afternoon at the studio it must be a monthly mastermind session!
PT on the Net
We invest in a free membership for every personal trainer to a site called PT on the Net. Each Hyatt Training trainer and intern gets access. PT on the Net is a great online portal for research articles and exercise demonstrations online and provides tremendous amounts of free continuing education.
Educational writing opportunities
There is always an open door for our team to share their expertise by way of content for blog posts, social media and newsletters. One of the best way to learn is by teaching others and this team is an amazing wealth of information.
Our internship has expanded and team personal trainers are now taking on interns of their own. While I’ve been taking interns for several years, it’s fun to see other trainers take on this teaching and mentoring roll now too. I love seeing other personal trainers at the studio be the expert and it gives our interns a much broader perspective on training styles. Win-win!
